The 2.5 TDI (engine codes BJJ, BJK, BJL, BJM) is the first-generation unit; it can be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox or the Shiftmatic, the automated manual version of that gearbox. The 2.0 TDI (engine codes CECA, CKTB, CKTC, CSLB) powers the next generation and is paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual. The gearboxes for these two engines are not interchangeable: before placing any order, the engine code stamped on the block is the only reliable reference for avoiding a mismatching error.

Shiftmatic: a special case that requires careful identification

The Shiftmatic is an automated manual gearbox: it shares its mechanical components with the 6-speed manual from the 2.5 TDI, but incorporates a separate electrohydraulic actuator. The gearbox sold here is supplied without the robot unit or actuator; these components are not included in the supply. Checking the condition of the actuator beforehand avoids confusing an electronic fault with a mechanical failure of the gearbox itself — a common mistake with this type of transmission.

When reconditioning your own gearbox makes sense

On a van of this size, traceability of the part can matter — particularly for a vehicle registered to a fleet or subject to specific operating requirements.
