From 2006 to 2015: three diesel engine codes, two petrol engine codes, and gearboxes that did not evolve in the same way

The Eos was sold as a single generation, but the mechanical range underwent several significant changes between 2006 and 2015. On the diesel side, the BMM is the code for the early years, later replaced by the CBAB and then the CFFB: three distinct codes, three potentially different gearboxes. This succession is the first identification pitfall — the 2.0 TDI engine capacity alone is not enough to pinpoint the correct reference. On the petrol side, the 1.4 TSI covers two codes, CAXA and CAVD, which share the same 6-speed manual gearbox but correspond to different production years.

6-speed manual or DSG 6: a choice exclusive to the 2.0 TDI

Only the 2.0 TDI was offered with both transmission types available in this collection: 6-speed manual and DSG 6. The 1.4 TSI received only the manual. The DSG 6 is supplied without the mechatronic unit, with a new dual-clutch assembly included. For the 2.0 TDI, you therefore need to know both the engine code and the vehicle's original transmission before placing an order: two cars from the same model year can have entirely different types of gearbox.

The engine code stamped on the block: the only reliable way to identify the right gearbox

On the Eos, the registration year gives an initial indication, but it is the engine code — physically stamped on the block — that definitively determines the compatible gearbox. The five codes covered by this collection (BMM, CBAB, CFFB, CAXA, CAVD) do not belong to the same families and are not interchangeable. Checking this code before anything else avoids ordering errors on a convertible whose reinforced structure and rigidity requirements led Volkswagen to make specific transmission choices compared with the saloons of the same era.
