Volkswagen Eos Gearbox: from 2006 to 2015, two engines with distinct transmissions

The Eos was produced in a single commercial generation, but the 2006–2015 range covers several engine evolutions that directly affected the associated gearboxes. The 2.0 TDI is the most represented engine in the collection, available in engine codes BMM (early years) and CBAB (later, higher-specification variant). The 1.4 TSI, introduced later with codes CAXA and CAVD, was only ever paired with the 6-speed manual gearbox. Identifying the engine code stamped on the block is therefore the essential first step before placing any order: two 2.0 TDI units from different years may require incompatible gearboxes.

2.0 TDI: 6-speed manual or DSG 6 depending on year and specification

The 2.0 TDI is the only Eos engine to have been offered with both transmission types available in this collection. The 6-speed manual was fitted to the majority of variants, whilst the DSG 6 was an option on certain trim levels. These two gearboxes are not mechanically interchangeable, and identifying the correct one requires the manufacturer reference visible on the casing — not just the engine code. The references in this collection — NBX, LNZ, KDN, NGB, NJK, among others — cover the full range.

Please note regarding the DSG 6: it is rebuilt without the mechatronic unit and supplied with a new dual-clutch assembly. If your vehicle is experiencing juddering in urban driving or erratic gear changes typical of dual-clutch wear, the mechanical gearbox is indeed the cause; however, if the symptoms point to an electronic management issue (mechatronic fault codes), the unit offered here will not resolve that problem.

1.4 TSI and engine code CFFB: a special case in the collection

The code CFFB appears in the listing alongside CAXA and CAVD for the 1.4 TSI. These three codes do not necessarily share the same gearbox reference, owing to differences in transmitted torque and axle ratio. Checking the full engine code (four letters) remains essential to avoid a mismatched fitment, even between two 1.4 TSI Eos units built just a few months apart.
