A Transit 2.2 TDCi is rarely a pampered vehicle: daily rounds, loads at the maximum gross vehicle weight, repeated cold starts. This intensive pattern of use puts the gearbox under far greater strain than a saloon or SUV of the same engine capacity would ever experience. 1st- and 2nd-gear synchromesh rings, selector forks and output bearings are the first components to give way on these high-mileage transmissions.

5 or 6 speeds: the engine code as the first identification criterion

Over this period, the 2.2 TDCi was fitted with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed manual, and the engine code is the first thing to check before placing any order. Fourteen codes are recorded across this range: CVRA, CYFA, CYFB, CYFC, DRFA, DRFB, DRFC, DRFD, DRFE, DRFF, P8FA, QVFA, SRFA and UFFA. Some codes coexist across the same model years without sharing the same gearbox, and the vehicle's payload configuration (panel van, minibus, chassis cab) may also determine the exact reference. The manufacturer reference examples shown on this page illustrate this variety: BK2R, BK3R, CC1R, DC1R and FK2R are not interchangeable.

Two treatment options available depending on the condition of your unit

Depending on the condition of the removed gearbox, two solutions are available in the catalogue: supply of a reconditioned unit on an exchange basis (your old unit must be returned), or a full rebuild of your own gearbox, which is then returned to you. This second option is the right choice when the reference is rare or when the casing carries a serial number tied to a vehicle-specific type approval.
