The same 1.9 TDI SEAT engine: why the turbo differs depending on power output and model

It is the most common pitfall with SEAT diesel engines: the 1.9 TDI covers no fewer than seven distinct power outputs — 75, 90, 100, 105, 110, 115, 130, 150 and 160 hp — and each one corresponds to a different turbo. A Leon 1.9 TDI 110 and a Leon 1.9 TDI 130 do not share the same variable-geometry mapping, and the manufacturer references are not interchangeable between these variants. Body style also matters: the Toledo, Altea and Ibiza sometimes share the same engine code yet require different turbo specifications due to thermal management or engine bay layout. Without the exact engine code (stamped on the block, not merely the power figure on the paperwork), the risk of ordering the wrong reference is very real.

Diesel and petrol: two very different turbo philosophies

On the diesel side, the range covers the 1.4 TDI, 1.9 TDI and 2.0 TDI families, spread across the Leon, Ibiza, Toledo, Altea, Cordoba and Exeo. The variable-geometry 1.9 TDI units are well known for clogging of their moving-vane mechanism, brought on by degraded engine oil or a blocked diesel particulate filter. The classic symptoms — whistling, a sharp loss of power, limp-home mode — typically point to a turbo seized in the closed position rather than an internal mechanical failure. Addressing the root cause (EGR, DPF, oil quality) before fitting any replacement is essential; failing to do so risks damaging the new part. On the petrol side, the 2.0 TSI Cupra (265 to 310 hp) and the 1.4 TSI / 1.2 TSI units follow a different logic: wastegate turbo, high rev-range demands, sensitivity to bearings and oil-seal integrity. The 2.0 TSI Cupra uses IS38 references and engine codes CJXA, CJXB, CJXC, CJXE, CJXG, CJXH — each suffix corresponding to a specific power output or revision; here again, the engine code takes precedence over the stated power figure.

New or reconditioned turbos: what the SEAT catalogue from EDEN BOITES offers

Depending on the reference, the turbo is available new (straightforward sale, no old unit to return) or as a reconditioned exchange unit. The EDEN BOITES catalogue for SEAT covers seven models — Leon (the most extensively stocked), Ibiza, Toledo, Altea, Cordoba, Exeo and Ateca — with direct manufacturer references (e.g. 04L253010B, 06K145702H, 038253016Q, 03G253019A) as well as equivalent references. To identify the correct part without error, the four-letter engine code (CKFC, CRBC, CZEA, CZDA, DFFA, CPTA, CBZA, among others) remains the most reliable selection criterion — far more so than engine capacity or power output.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

It depends on the reference: each product page states whether the turbo is new (straight sale, nothing to send back) or reconditioned (exchange basis), together with the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your SEAT.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

Only for a reconditioned turbo, sold on an exchange basis: you return your old turbo after the new one has been delivered and fitted, and we arrange the collection. A new turbo is a straight sale: nothing to send back, one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my SEAT?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
