Nissan Turbos: from the YD22 of the 2000s to the V9X and M9T of recent generations

Before searching for a turbo by model, the engine code stamped on the block is the most reliable starting point. On Nissan diesel engines from the 2000s, you will find essentially the YD22 (2.2 dCi, codes YD22DDT, YD22DDTi, YD22ETI, YD22ED) on the Almera, Primera and X-Trail, and ZD30 (codes ZD30, ZD30DDTi, ZD30DDTI, ZD30ETI) on the Patrol, Terrano and Cabstar in 3.0 D or 3.0 Di. These two families do not share the same turbo references, and the suffix variants (DDTi vs ETI) correspond to different valve timing or forced-induction configurations: a misread code can easily lead to the wrong order.

YD25, K9K, M9T, V9X: the key codes of the later generations

The YD25DDTi / YD25DDTI family is by far the most common in this catalogue: it covers the Navara, Pathfinder and X-Trail in 2.5 dCi, with outputs ranging from 110 hp to 190 hp depending on the year. Please note: the same YD25DDTi code can correspond to different turbo references depending on the power output (122, 136, 146, 174 or 190 hp) and the vehicle generation. The QW25 code also appears on certain 2.5 dCi Navara variants from the 144, 171, 174 and 190 hp versions onwards. For the Qashqai and NV400, the codes K9K (1.5 dCi, numerous variants: K9K 608, K9K 629, K9K 892…) and M9T (2.3 dCi in 125, 130, 135, 145, 163 or 165 hp depending on the vehicle) apply to distinct turbos. The V9X / V9X891 is reserved for the 3.0 dCi Pathfinder (231, 238 or 241 hp). On the petrol side, the MR16DDT is fitted to the Juke and Qashqai 1.6 DIG-T 190 hp: a fixed-geometry turbo with a wastegate, in a petrol context where degraded oil and delayed lubrication on start-up are the main causes of failure.

Symptoms and causes: what to check before replacement

On the YD25 and ZD30, blocked oil passages and poor lubrication are the primary causes of turbo failure — whistling, smoke or loss of power are merely the visible symptoms. On the M9T in the NV400, a clogged diesel particulate filter directly increases back-pressure and accelerates bearing wear. Fitting a new turbo without addressing the underlying cause will invariably result in another failure. All turbos listed on this page are new, sold with OEM references and their equivalents, with no exchange basis.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

It depends on the reference: each product page states whether the turbo is new (straight sale, nothing to send back) or reconditioned (exchange basis), together with the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Nissan.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

Only for a reconditioned turbo, sold on an exchange basis: you return your old turbo after the new one has been delivered and fitted, and we arrange the collection. A new turbo is a straight sale: nothing to send back, one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Nissan?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
