On the Caddy 2.0 TDI (2007–2020), three gearbox architectures coexist depending on the engine code and year

Unlike the other diesel engines in the Caddy range, the 2.0 TDI is not exclusively fitted with a manual gearbox: depending on the version and period, it comes with a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DSG dual-clutch. These three types are not interchangeable, and the engine code is the primary identification criterion, even before the date of first registration.

Four engine codes — pairings not to be confused

The codes BMM, CFHC, CUUD and DFSD cover the 2007–2020 range. The BMM, found on early production vehicles, is paired with the 5-speed manual gearbox. More recent codes may be fitted with either the 6-speed manual or the DSG 6. Mixing up references between these codes is the most common ordering mistake: a single model year can correspond to two different engine codes depending on the power output or the target market.

DSG 6: what the automatic version means in technical terms

The DSG 6 available within this range is supplied with a new dual-clutch and without the mechatronic unit. The mechatronic unit is a separate electrohydraulic module whose failure is diagnosed independently. Before ordering a DSG gearbox, confirming that the fault is genuinely mechanical and not related to the mechatronic unit will avoid an unnecessary replacement. For manual versions, the typical signs of wear on this type of gearbox include stiff gear changes and noise on gear release.
