The Caddy 2.0 TDI uses three distinct gearbox configurations depending on the generation and engine code

5-speed manual, 6-speed manual or DSG 6: these three transmissions coexist on the same 2.0 TDI engine between 2007 and 2020, and they are not interchangeable. The 5-speed manual is paired with the earliest versions of the unit, notably engine code BMM, fitted from 2007. The 6-speed manual accompanies later developments, in particular engine codes CFHC and CUUD. The DSG 6 appears on certain configurations of these same units, but remains uncommon on the Caddy van.

What each type means in practice

The BMM 5-speed manual is known for synchroniser wear on 2nd and 3rd gear under heavy use — common in a loaded van. The CFHC and CUUD 6-speed manual is mechanically more robust but prone to input shaft seal leaks. The DSG 6 is supplied without the mechatronic unit, with a new dual-clutch included: this is a key structural point to factor in before placing any order. The engine code stamped on the block remains the only reliable reference for determining which part number — from the ten available in this collection — matches the vehicle in question.
