Six engine codes over eleven years: how the Tiguan 2.0 TDI gearbox evolved from 2007 to 2018

The Tiguan 2.0 TDI didn't make do with a single engine or a single transmission across its first generation. Between 2007 and 2018, six engine codes came and went — CBAB, CFFB, CFGB, CUVC, DFG and DFGA — and the gearbox fitted varies depending on the year of first registration. The earlier years (CBAB, CFFB, CFGB) correspond to 6-speed manual gearboxes; the more recent codes, notably CUVC, DFG and DFGA, can be paired with a DSG 7. Mixing up the two families when placing an order is the most common pitfall in this area.

6-speed manual or DSG 7: two distinct identification approaches

The 6-speed manual and the DSG 7 share neither the same architecture nor the same failure symptoms. On the wet-clutch DSG 7 (DQ500, used on high-torque 2.0 TDI variants), juddering in town driving or hesitation on cold starts are well-known signs of dual-clutch wear. The gearbox is supplied with a new dual clutch, without mechatronic unit: this point determines the diagnosis required before ordering. For the manual, difficulty selecting 3rd or 5th gear and sump leaks are the usual warning signs on first-generation engine codes.

Check the engine code first and foremost

On the Tiguan 2.0 TDI, the same production year can correspond to different engine codes depending on the trim level or the target market. The engine code, stamped on the block and available in the vehicle's documents, is the only reliable criterion for selecting the correct reference. EDEN BOITES offers these gearboxes in two ways: on an exchange basis, or as a full rebuild to 0 km of your own unit.

    Frequently asked questions

Is a gearbox for this Volkswagen model in stock?

We currently list 28 references reconditioned for this model. Availability depends on the exact engine: enter your number plate to confirm stock in real time, or request an online quote.

How can I be sure it is compatible with my Volkswagen?

Compatibility depends on the engine / gearbox code, not just the model. The most reliable way is your number plate or registration document: our advisers confirm the right gearbox for your vehicle before you order.

Do I need to send back my old unit?

Yes, that is the principle of an exchange unit: you return your old gearbox (the core), which we recondition in turn. We arrange transport both ways, so you don't have to handle any logistics.

How long does it take to receive the gearbox for my Volkswagen?

Once compatibility is confirmed and depending on the availability of the reference, the part leaves our workshop ready to fit, delivered throughout France and Europe, with payment in instalments available (up to 10 payments).
