Master, Mégane, Clio: Renault engines are many, but each engine code determines a specific gearbox reference

The same model can accommodate several mechanical families depending on the year of first registration and the target market: it is the engine code stamped on the block — not the engine capacity shown — that determines the exact compatibility of the part. This catalogue covers Renault vehicles from 1991 to 2024, spanning two part families — gearboxes and bare engines — with a clear predominance of the Master and Trafic light commercials, followed by the passenger models Mégane, Clio, Kangoo and Scénic.

Two diesel engine families that account for the vast majority

The K9K (1.5 dCi) and the M9T (2.3 dCi) make up the great majority of available references. The K9K covers the Clio, Mégane, Kangoo, Scénic and Laguna across codes ranging from K9K 700 to K9K 872: these variants are not interchangeable, as the mounting points, axle ratios and electronic interfaces differ from one generation to the next. The M9T is fitted primarily to the Master and Trafic in their heavier configurations; codes M9T 670 to M9T 716 correspond to different power outputs and torque settings — an M9T 700 cannot be substituted by an M9T 706 without prior verification. The 1.9 dCi (F9Q), 2.0 dCi (M9R) and 2.5 dCi (G9U) complete the diesel range on the Laguna, Vel Satis, Espace and the light commercials of earlier generations.

Manual gearboxes, Quickshift and engines: what this catalogue actually offers

The gearboxes available are exclusively 5- or 6-speed manual transmissions and Quickshift automated manual gearboxes — the latter being supplied without the actuator or electrohydraulic unit, as that component is subject to a separate repair. The most common gearbox references (PF6058, JR5301, JH3334, JB3974…) each correspond to a specific engine code and vehicle version: a PF6 gearbox is characteristic of the Master and Trafic light commercials with M9T engines, whereas a JR5 or JH3 is more typically found on passenger models with K9K or petrol engines. On the engine side, petrol units cover the H4B and H4Bt codes (1.2 TCe, Clio IV, Captur) as well as the 1.3 TCe (R9M) on more recent generations. Every engine is offered as a bare unit; ancillary components are not included. For light commercial vehicles such as the Mascott and Maxity, the ZD3200 and ZD3202 engine families are in a category of their own, with little representation elsewhere in the range.
