On SEAT models, the engine code changes everything: the same 1.4 TSI or 1.9 TDI can require three different gearboxes

This is the most common pitfall with this brand: two Leons or two Ibizas with the same engine capacity and the same apparent model year can take incompatible gearboxes the moment the engine code differs. A 1.4 TSI stamped CAXC is not interchangeable with a CULC or a CJXA, even if the quoted power output is identical. The same logic applies on the diesel side: the 1.9 TDI covers the codes ASZ, AXR, ATD, each paired with different final-drive ratios and clutch bells. Before placing any order, the code stamped on the engine — not the engine capacity — is the only reliable reference.

The Leon and Ibiza account for the bulk of the range

These two models alone represent the vast majority of references available in this collection, which covers model years 1998 à 2024. It includes 5- and 6-speed manual gearboxes, as well as the DSG 6 and DSG 7 — dual-clutch transmissions fitted in particular to the 2.0 TDI and 2.0 TSI versions of recent Leons, and to certain Atecas. These DSG gearboxes are supplied without the mechatronic unit, with a new dual-clutch assembly included. The Altea, Toledo and Exeo share several gearbox families with the Leon of the same generation, which can be misleading: the manufacturer's reference remains essential to confirm compatibility.

Key points to check by engine type

The 1.0 TSI (codes DFFA, DFHA, DFGA) is fitted to recent generations of the Ibiza and Arona with a specific 6-speed gearbox, distinct from the older 5-speed units used with the naturally aspirated 1.0. The 1.2 TDI (codes BNM, BNV) is paired with a 5-speed gearbox unique to that engine — an uncommon unit that is frequently confused with the 1.4 TDI gearbox. On the 1.9 TDI 130 hp, the 6-speed manual gearbox is a reference in its own right and cannot be substituted by the 100 hp version of the same engine. The reconditioned gearboxes in this collection are available on an exchange basis or as a rebuild of your own unit, depending on the reference.
