The Polo is primarily a city car, used in stop-start traffic, with frequent clutch engagement and, often, high annual mileage for a compact vehicle. The 1.4 TDI in this Polo generation covers six distinct engine codes — AMF, BNM, BMS, BAY, BNV, BWB — and not all of them use the same gearbox or the same axle ratio. The year of manufacture and the engine code, both readable on the manufacturer's plate or in the vehicle's technical documentation, are the two parameters that must be cross-referenced before placing any order. A 2001 Polo and a 2008 Polo may share the same engine capacity without sharing the same transmission.

DSG 7: supplied with a new dual-clutch, without mechatronic unit

The DSG 7 gearbox offered here is supplied with a new dual-clutch included, but without the mechatronic unit: this electrohydraulic module is diagnosed and treated separately, as its failure follows its own logic, independent of the mechanical wear of the gearbox itself. In heavy urban use, the DSG 7's dry dual-clutch is the primary wear item to inspect before attributing any fault to the gearbox.
