CFHB or CBBB: which engine code determines the gearbox on the Scirocco 2.0 TDI?

The Scirocco 2.0 TDI ran from 2008 to 2017 with two distinct engine codes: CBBB and CFHB. This is not a minor detail: these two units do not necessarily share the same gearbox. Before doing anything else, the code stamped on the engine is the only reliable starting point — the registration year alone is not enough to determine which unit you need.

DSG 6 or 6-speed manual: two very different architectures

The Scirocco 2.0 TDI was offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a DSG 6. The DSG 6 (DQ250) covers the diesel versions at this power output and is known for dual-clutch wear at high mileage or in heavy urban use — typical symptoms include juddering during manoeuvres and slipping on pull-away. The DSG version available here is supplied without the mechatronic unit and includes a new dual clutch. The manual, for its part, shows typical wear on the 3rd and 4th gear synchromesh after hard use. The available references — including QYX, NFP, LQV and KCU — each correspond to a specific combination of engine code and transmission type: none are interchangeable between the two families.
