Diesel and petrol Peugeot engines follow different identification logic: the DW, DV and EB families illustrate this clearly

The catalogue covers very different engine ranges depending on the fuel type. On the diesel side, three main families structure the offer: the DW10 and DW12 (2.0 and 2.2 HDi units found notably on the 308, 407, 508, Expert and Boxer), the DV6 and DV5 (1.6 HDi, 1.5 BlueHDi — 307, 308, 3008, 5008, Partner, Rifter) and the older DV4 / 1.4 HDi or 1.9 D (306, 307, Partner). On the petrol side, the distinction is equally clear-cut between the EB (PureTech 1.0 and 1.2), the EP6 / 1.6 THP and the older VTi 1.4 and 1.6. These families share neither architecture, nor ancillaries, nor mounting points: mixing up families makes fitting impossible.

The engine code trap on the DW10, DV6 and EB

The same engine capacity can correspond to several distinct engine codes depending on the model year, emissions standard and power output. The 2.0 HDi exists under references such as DW10FC_AHH, DW10FE_AHK, DW10CTED4_RHE, DW10FUC_AHP or DW10FDDU_EHT — each specific to a precise generation. The 1.6 HDi / BlueHDi ranges across DV6FC_BHZ, DV5RUC_YHV and DV5RC_YHZ, differentiated in particular by their injection system and Euro compatibility. The same applies to the PureTech: EB2F_HMZ, EB2DT_HNZ, EB2DTS_HNY or EB2ADTS_HNS all denote 1.2 units whose internal dimensions and auxiliary outputs differ. The engine code stamped on the block — not the engine capacity shown on the registration document — is the only reliable reference when ordering.

Models covered and known weak points

The range extends from the 306 (1996) through to current generations (2026), with a concentration on the 308, Boxer, Expert, 5008 and 3008. The EP6 / 1.6 THP (code EP6CDTX_5FU) are well known for their sensitivity to oil pressure and timing chain issues on early generations — a reconditioned engine for these units always comes as a bare engine without ancillaries. The DW12 (2.2 HDi) fitted to the Boxer and Expert can suffer from premature liner wear on the 120 hp versions (codes 4HU, 4HK, 4HG, 4HH). All engines offered are sold as bare engines; ancillaries (turbo, alternator, starter motor) are not included.
