Nissan Turbos: from the ZD30DDTi of the 4x4 era to the V9X of the modern 3.0 dCi, which engine code goes with which part?

On a Nissan, it is the engine code stamped on the block — not the engine capacity or the quoted power output — that determines the exact turbo to order. A 2.5 dCi can cover the codes YD25DDTi, YD25K3LD or QW25 depending on the generation and power output (110, 122, 136, 144, 146, 171, 174 or 190 hp): the corresponding turbos are not the same and the manufacturer references differ. The same logic applies to the 1.5 dCi, which encompasses the variants K9K 608, K9K 628, K9K 629 and K9K 892 — four codes, four variable-geometry maps, found on the Micra, Note, Juke and Qashqai.

The main code families and their models

The ZD30DDTi / ZD30ETi is fitted to the Patrol, Terrano and Pathfinder in 3.0 Di or 3.0 D 150 hp form: fixed-geometry turbo with wastegate, a distinct family from the variable-geometry ZD30DDTi that appeared on later versions. The V9X and V9X891 power the Pathfinder and X-Trail 3.0 dCi at 231, 238 and 241 hp: a two-stage compound turbo, sensitive to lubrication quality. The M9T covers the NV400 and Interstar 2.3 dCi 135 and 165 hp light commercials, whilst the MR16DDT is the only petrol code in the range, on the Juke 1.6 DIG-T 190 hp: fixed-geometry turbo with wastegate, a specific architecture not to be confused with the diesel units of the same engine capacity. The codes YD22DDTi, YD22ED, YD22DDT and YD22ETi relate to the Primera and Almera in 2.2 dCi 136 hp, and the codes RD28Ti and TD27Ti to the older-generation Patrol and Navara in 2.7 TDI.

Symptoms, causes of failure and Nissan-specific points to watch

On the YD25 and ZD30, oil circuit fouling and degradation of bearing lubrication are the primary causes of failure: persistent blue smoke, whistling and a gradual loss of power are the usual warning signs. On the V9X, EGR circuit fouling and an air leak on the intake line can cause rapid destruction of the CHRA. Addressing the root cause before fitting a replacement turbo is essential: a turbo fitted to a contaminated oil circuit will not last. Depending on the reference, the turbos available here are either new (straightforward sale, no unit to return) or reconditioned (exchange basis) — the product page specifies the type for each manufacturer reference and its equivalents.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

The turbos on this page are new. Each product page states the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Nissan.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

No. The turbos on this page are new and sold as a straight sale: nothing to send back, your old turbo stays with you and there is one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Nissan?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
